Qualification Pathways

Choose the leadership route that fits your role

There are three ways to take the Cambridge International Certificate/Diploma in Educational Leadership.

Certificate

Certificate Course

For current or aspiring leaders in schools or other parts of the educational system.

Eligibility
Candidates must have a leadership role, be aspiring leaders, and have direct responsibility for teachers and leaders.
Structure
Module 1: Exploring Leadership, including Units 1, 2, and 3.
Duration
6 Months
Diploma

Diploma Course

For candidates who have already completed the Certificate Course and want to continue into the diploma pathway.

Eligibility
Completion of the Certificate Course before starting the Diploma Course.
Structure
Module 2: Teaching and learning in action, and Module 3: Leading change for improvement and developing staff.
Duration
6 Months
Direct Diploma

Direct Diploma Course

For eligible leaders who want to enter the diploma route directly through a crash course of Module 1 followed by Modules 2 and 3.

Eligibility
A leadership role in a school or educational system, direct responsibility for teachers or leaders, and either completion of the certificate course or five years of leadership experience.
Structure
Crash Course of Module 1 plus Module 2 and Module 3.
Duration
8 Months

Qualification Structure

Module 1 can be taken on its own as the Certificate.

Candidates can continue to the Diploma, or take the Direct Diploma if the eligibility condition is fulfilled.

Language Requirements

English competence for participation.

Candidates are required to have sufficient competence in English to participate in the qualification. Candidates should have English language competence comparable to Level B2 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Alternatively, candidates can speak directly to the Programme Leader to confirm whether they qualify for the entry requirements.

Course Deliverable

A leadership ePortfolio of evidence

Candidates compile evidence from reflection, professional feedback, and their leadership improvement work. Edu Lead guides its development, reviews the completed portfolio, and submits it to Cambridge.

Portfolio evidence includes

  • Critical reviews of leadership concepts, responsibilities, and professional context.
  • Reflection on leadership practice, action planning, and feedback from experienced leaders.
  • Analysis of effective leadership, peer learning, and mentoring.
  • Evaluation of an implemented change initiative and a professional development plan.
